The Herald - Scheme to link people with schools takes off

This is a bit odd for a government that has enough problems in its plate to want start a program to link prominent business people in Zimbabwe and abroad to schools that they went to in the hope they might be able to help their former schools. Wouldn't it be more reasonable and less taxing to the government if they asked the schools to form alumni/old students and maybe at least help the schools make their former students aware of the associations. One high school that l know of( St Mary Magdalene's High School, Nyanga) recently started its Old Students Association in conjunction with the parents of current students and parents of former students. Many people donate funds in cash or kind to their former schools and this doesn't make headlines but, when government steps in it has to be an event of note.
Don't get me wrong here, they are doing the right thing but, when government steps in there is something wrong with this picture. Is it they can't help government schools with adequate funding or they want to mobilise the rural people for support by giving a picture that they are helping their communities. There has to be a twist in all this somehow, l think. Here is a link to the article: http://www.herald.co.zw/inside.aspx?sectid=15778&cat=1
